31 May 2024 - Traders fear rising rents and anti-social behaviour is making New Ash Green Shopping Centre a ‘no go area’
Elderly said to be unwilling to visit centre at present due to anti-social behaviour including throwing flour and tomato sauce, criminal damage of windows and cars, laughing gas canisters.  Police say reported incidents of anti-social behaviour has fallen in NAG.  Increased rents said to be driving business away, new owners claim rents have to rise to pay for improvements and they have let 3 units recently.  This article generated very many comments, many critical of police and parents.  Also podcast available (https://www.kentonline.co.uk/kent/news/businesses-suffering-as-teen-gangs-terrorise-shoppers-307578/)

03 June 2024 - Sun Rise Chinese Takeaway, in New Ash Green, closes after almost 40 years due to rising costs
After 38 years the Sun Rise Chinese Restaurant in New Ash Green is closing.  Owners blame rising costs, and faced with the prospect of higher rents when the lease renewed in June, decided to call it a day.  Some people  have been bulk buying their favourites to freeze.  Article features picture of first menu in 1986b when sweet and sour chicken was £1.95 (now £7).

17 June 2024 - Hodgson pharmacy partners with Charac to enhance patient services
New service launched by Longfield Chemists.  Article mentions that since Lloyds Chemists closed in Longfield, their work has gone up considerably, with 50% increase in prescriptions and 100% in over the counter sales

17 June 2024 - Is the Pharmacy First Scheme working in Kent?
Report on workings of scheme since it was launched in January.  For seven common illnesses patients can get treatment and prescription drugs from chemist.  They are paid £15 per consultation.  Longfield chemist says he loses money on the scheme, because he has to employ another pharmacist.  He had 150 patients under the scheme in April.  He loses money on NHS work which is subsidised by his private work.

28 June 2024 - Various Roads in the District of Sevenoaks - Waiting Restrictions Consolidation Order
After many years of amendments, Kent CC propose to consolidate all the parking restrictions in Sevenoaks district into one order.  There are no changes to existing restrictions.  For Hartley this affects

  1. Copse Side: entrance - no parking at any time, remainder - no parking M-F 7-10am
  2. Quaker's Close: entrance - no parking at any time, rest of road up to Aspens - no parking M-F 7-10am
  3. Wellfield entrance - no parking at any time, three disabled bays in rest of road
  4. Merton Avenue - 1 disabled bay
  5. Porchester Close - 1 disabled bay
  6. Hartley Green and top of Castle Hill - no parking at any time
  7. Ash Road outside Fairby Hill, Social Club - no parking at any time
  8. Culvey Close parts of road- no parking at any time
  9. Church Road outside RC Church- no parking at any time
  10. Cherry Trees: nearest part to Church Road - no parking at any time; rest of road up to cul-de-sac - no parking M-Sat 8-6.30
  11. Round Ash Way: approach road to school - various restrictions related to school hours
  12. Fairby Lane: outside entrance to school - no stopping M-F 8.30-9.30 am and 3-4pm
  13. The Warrens: Entrance and surrounding part of Ash Road - no parking at any time
