Although his will bequeaths Hottsfield to his wife Margaret, by right it was hers anyway as it was left to her in 1692 her uncle Thomas Burrow.

In the name of God, Amen.  I William Jewell of Bradborne in the parish of Sevenoaks in the county of Kent, gentleman, being sick and weak in body, but of sound and perfect mind, memory and understanding, praised be Almighty God therefore, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in writing, in manner and form following, that is to say:

First and principally I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it, and my body I commit to the earth to be therein decently buried at the discretion of my executrix hereinafter named.  And as touching the disposal of what worldly estate it hath pleased God to bless me with, I dispose thereof as follows, that is to say:

I give, devise and bequeath unto my loving wife Margaret Jewell: All those my lands and premises, lying and being in the parish of Hartley in the said county of Kent, and in the occupation of the widow Vickers or her assigns.  To hold the said lands and premises unto my said loving wife for and during the term of her natural life and from and after her decease then I give and devise the same unto my loving son William Jewell, his heirs and assigns forever.  But in case my said loving wife shall happen to survive my said son William, then my mind and will is and I do hereby then give the said lands and premises unto my said loving wife, her heirs and assigns forever.

Item: I do hereby give and devise unto my said loving wife Margaret Jewell.  All that my messuage, lands and premises with their and every of their appurtenances situate, lying and being in the parish of Chiddingstone and Penshurst in the said county of Kent and now in my own occupation.  And also all that my barn, stable and buildings together with my lands called Shawls, situate, lying and being in the parish of Bletchingly in the county of Surrey and in the occupation of my brother John Jewell or his assigns.  And also all those my two burgagehold messuages or tenements with the appurtenances thereunto belonging, situate and being in the said parish of Bletchingly and now or late in the occupation of Andrew Cooke and _____ Bowers (sic) or their assigns.  To have and to hold the said messuages or tenements and lands and all other the premises before mentioned, to be situate, lying and being in the parishes of Chiddingstone, Penshurst and Bletchingly or either of them unto my said loving wife Margaret Jewell for and during the term of her natural life or until she shall be married again which shall first happen and no longer.  And from and after the decease or marriage as aforesaid which shall first happen of my said loving wife Margaret Jewell.  Then I give and devise the said messuages, lands and premises mentioned to be situate, lying and being in the said parishes of Chiddingstone, Penshurst orBletchingly or either of them unto my said son William Jewell, his heirs and assigns forever.  But my mind and will is that if my said son William shall depart this life before he shall attain the age of one and twenty years, then I give and devise the said messuages, lands and premises before mentioned to be situate, lying and being in the said parishes of Chiddingstone and Penshurst unto my loving nephews John Overy, Samuel Overy and James Overery (sons of my sister Overy deceased) and to their heirs and assigns for ever.  Subject nevertheless to the term limited unto my said loving wife and charged and chargeable with the paryment of the sum of £150 a piece payable unto their sisters Mary Overy and Elizabeth Overy, which my mind and will is shall be paid to them when they shall attain their respective ages of one and twenty years.  And in case my said son William shall depart this life before he shall attain his said age of one and twenty years.  Then I give and devise the said two burgage messuages or tenements and lands before mentioned to be situate and being in the said parish of Bletchingly unto my loving brother Thomas Jewell for and during the term of his natural life and no longer, and from and after the decease of my said loving brother Thomas Jewell, then I give na devise the same unto my said loving nephews John Overy, Samuel Overy and James Overy, their heirs and assigns forever.  But subject nevertheless to the the term before limited unto my said loving life Margaret Jewell.  

Item: I give and bequeath unto my said loving wife Margaret Jewell, her executors and administrators, all my household goods, stock, cattle, chattels and personal estate whatsoever to be by her sold for the most that can be got for the same.  And the moneys raised by sale thereof, my will is shall be applied towards payment of my debts and funeral expenses.  And if that shall be not sufficient to do the same, then I do hereby charge all my real estate with the payment of so much as shall then be behind and unpaid.

And I do hereby make, ordain, constitute and appoint my said loving wife Margaret Jewell, to be executrix of this my said will, hereby revoking all former wills by me made.  And I do appoint my said loving brothers Thomas Jewell and James Burrowes overseers of the same, desiring them to assist my said loving wife in the execution of the same.  And lastly my mind and will is that if my said wife shall marry with any person after my decease, that then and immediately after her marriage she shall have no manner of benefit of this my will or of any of the messuages, lands, tenements and premises before mentioned or of the rents and profts thereof or any part thereof, except the lands and premises mentioned to be lying and being in Hartly aforesaid in the said county of Kent.

In witness whereof, I have to this my last will and testament contained in three sheets of paper.  To each sheet whereof I have set my hand and seal this 19th day of September in the 6th year of the reign of our sovereign lord George by the Grace of God of Great Britain, France and Ireland, King, defender of the faith etc, and in the year of our Lord 1719.  (S) William Jewell.

Signed, sealed, published and declared by the said William Jewell the testator, as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us, who have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses in the presence of the said testator, (S) John Croper, (S) H Maurice, (S) Thomas Freebody.

William Jewell of Sevenoaks, gentleman 1762

This is the last will of me, William Jewell of Sevenoaks in the county of Kent, gentleman, and is as followeth, that is to say.  I give to my two cousins Samuel Overy and James Overy, £30 a piece and to their sister Elizabeth Overy, I give the sum of £30.  I also give the sum of £30 equally between the two children of their late sister Mary Wood deceased.  

Also all my messuages or tenements, farms, lands, hereditaments and real estate whatsoever with the appurtenances situate and being in the several parishes of Chiddingstone, Pensherst, Leigh and Hartley or elsewhere in the county of Kent, I give and devise unto Hester Jewell, my wife and to her assigns for and during the term of her natural life without impeachment of for any manner of waste.  And from and immediately after the decease of my said wife, I give and devise the same premises unto my cousin Elizabeth Selby and to her heirs and assigns forever.  Also all my household goods, plate, linen, ready money and securities for money and all other my personal estate of whate nature, kind or quality soever it be, I give unto my said wife Hester Jewell.  She paying thereout the legacies before mentioned and all such just debts as I shall owe at the time of my decease.  And I do hereby nominate and appoint my said wife sole executrix of this my will, hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time before made, and do declare this only to be my last will.

In witness whereof I the said William Jewell the testator have to this my last will contained in one sheet of paper, set my hand and seal this 8th day of the July in the year of our Lord 1761.  (S) William Jewell.
