Langafel Close - Looking south
Langafel close is a small road of 14 semi-detached houses and maisonettes built in 1964 on the site of the former Longfield Court.  All the houses are located at the back of St Mary Magdalene Parish Church, which can be seen in the first photo looking north.  The road gets its name from the Domesday Book spelling for Longfield.

In common with other roads in Longfield, parking has been an issue over the years.  In 1976 yellow lines were introduced to prevent parking in the morning rush hour.   In 2002 double yellow lines were added to the first 10 metres from Main Road on either side However no restrictions were imposed on the remainder of the first 70 metres from Main Road on the western side, which is still regularly filled with commuter's cars.

It seems restrictions were imposed for the whole road in 2001 only to be revoked the following year.  In 2018 local residents said the lack of parking restrictions there was causing difficulties for carers visiting the road early in the morning and having nowhere to park, and also for those wishing to visit the church.

Langafel Close - footpath to Station Road
A number of the trees in the close were given preservation status in 1961 including the large yew that is believed to be Longfield's oldest tree.  An old photo in Dartford planning records shows the tree in its prime.  However in 2021 the owner got permission to reduce the height on the grounds that the tree was in poor physiological condition.

When Langafel Close was built the footpath to Station Road was retained.

Information about the houses

Explanation:

This is information collected from various sources about the houses, divided as follows:

(1) Description - this has mostly been drawn from sale adverts and observation from the road.  Names of properties are included if the road is not numbered or the name appears as well as the number in the offical Royal Mail address.  Changes of name and the date, where known, are also included here.

(2) Building History - the date of construction is sometimes approximate as it is based on the property appearing in the electoral register or the subject of a planning permission etc.

(3) Sales and Rents - mostly from property adverts and Land Registry records.  Of course those based on adverts may not be the price it actually sold for.  There are some cases of property valuations for mortgages from Dartford Rural District Council.  House price data 1995 to date produced by Land Registry © Crown copyright 2023. To report an error, go to Change a sales record form.

(4) Site history - this contains a selection of records which demonstrate which farm and field the property stands upon.

I have tried to make sure the information is accurate, but no responsibility can be taken for any errors. If you plan to rely on the information, you should check the source data to be sure. If you spot an error, please let me know via the contact form.
