Census 1911

The 1911 Census was taken on 2 April 1911. For the first time the householder's return is the main record not the enumerator's notes. The returns are available on Ancestry and Find My Past. A detailed description is available at the website http://www.1911census.org.uk/.

Hartley's population had actually fallen slightly to 278 since the 1901 census, but this was just before the large number of houses built by Small Owners Limited which would see the population double by 1921.
