Christopher Hayward lived in Eynsford and left the freehold of the King's Arms (later Hartley Bottom Farm) to his daughter Mary in 1750.

In the name of God, Amen. I Christopher Hayward the elder of Eynsford in the county of Kent, yeoman, being of good health of body and of sound and perfect mind, memory and understanding (praised be God for the same), considering the uncertainty of this mortal life do make, publish and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say). First and most principally I bequeath my soul to God, who gave it, hoping for eternal salvation through the merits of Jesus Christ, his only son, my saviour and redeemer. And my body I commit to the earth from whence it came to be buried at the discretion of my executor hereinafter named and as touching and concerning the disposal of all such worldly estate as it hath pleased God of this great goodness to bless me withal here upon earth, whether the same be real or personal or of what other nature, kind or quality soever the same may be or consist in, I do hereby give, devise and bequeath the same as followeth: First I will and direct that all my just debts and funeral charges and the probate of this my will shall be fully paid, satisfied and discharged by my executor thereinafter named. Also I give, devise and bequeath unto my loving daughter Ann Whiffen (wife of Alexander Whiffen of Eynsford aforesaid yeoman) the sum of £50... to be paid unto her within 12 months next after my decease by my executor... Also I give, devise and bequeath unto my loving daughter Jane Farrant (wife of William Farrant of Darenth.. yeoman) the sum of £150 etc... Also I give ... unto my loving daughter Sarah Taylor (wife of George Taylor of Ightham.. yeoman) the sum of £50 etc..... Also I give... unto my loving daughter Mary Hayward: All that my messuage or tenement, ground land and premises with their and every of their appurtenances thereunto belonging situate, lying and being at Hartley in the county of Kent aforesaid, and now in or late in the tenure or occupation of John Knowles, victualler, his undertenants or assigns. To have and to hold the same unto my said daughter Mary Hayward, her heirs and assigns forever. Also I give.. unto my said daughter Mary Hayward, the further sum of £10 to buy clothes for her with from time to time as shall be thought necessary. Also I give... unto the vicar of Eynsford aforesaid, 1 guinea to preach a funeral sermon at my burial. Also I give .. unto every poor family in the town of Eynsford ... that shall not be invited unto my burial or funeral the sum of half a crown unto each family to be paid unto them by the executor.. on the day of my burial or as soon after as may or can be done. Also I give... all the rest, residue and remainder of my real and personal estates whatsoever or wheresoever and of what nature, kind or quality soever the same may be of or consist in (subject nevertheless) and hereby charged and liable to the payment of all and every the sum and sums of money hereinbefore mentioned) unto my loving son Christopher Hayward, his heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns forevermore. Also I do hereby make, ordain, constitute and appoint my said son Christopher Hayward sole executor of this my last will and testament and lastly I do hereby revoke, annul and make void all former will and wills by me at any time heretofore made and do declare this only to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I the said Christopher Hayward the testator have to this my last will and testament contained in two sheets of paper with this sheet set my hand to the first sheet and my hand and seal to this sheet this first day of July... 1749..
